TASTY PINS
Summary
Tasty Pins is a Pinterest optimization plugin that will help you optimize images on your WordPress site for Pinterest. It allows you add custom pin description, hide pins, add Pinterest save button on images and more.
What is Tasty Pins
If you have a WordPress blog or a website then I’m pretty sure you have heard about search engine optimization plugins like Yoast, Rank Math and more.
If yes, then you know these plugins guide you on how to optimize your site for search and at the same time lets you add components to your site that will help you increase your reach on the search.
Similarly, Tasty Pins is a plugin that helps you optimize images on your site for Pinterest, keeping intact the SEO.
It is a very useful plugin that bridges the gap between SEO and Pinterest. If you are looking to increase your reach on Pinterest then this is a must-have plugin for you.
Having said that,
Tasty Pins belongs to WP Tasty family of plugins which is owned and run by creators of Pinch of Yum.
If you are a food blogger then most probably your would have come across this blog at some point of time on search or social media.
With the success of Pinch of Yum, Lindsay and Bjork started an online community for food bloggers known as Food Bloggers Pro where they shared their years of experience and journey with new bloggers to help them succeed.
Once this community started growing, they decided to take it a notch up by creating custom products that would resolve some blogging related issues.
And this led to the creation of the brand WP Tasty and the first product was Tasty Recipes which is a plugin that lets you add recipe card and markup to your posts.
This product was very received and hence was a huge success.
After Tasty Recipes, the other 2 products under the WP Tasty umbrella were launched and these were
- Tasty Links– A plugin that helps you automatically create links for specific keywords to help you with internal links and maximizing affiliate revenue.
- Tasty Pins– A plugin that helps you optimize images on your WordPress site for both Pinterest and SEO to help outrank your competition and generate traffic.
Now that you are familiar with Tasty Pins plugin and the company behind it, the next topic we are going to discuss is the benefits of using Tasty Pins.
Why do you need Tasty Pins
Let me start this section by sharing some of the fundamentals that you have to work on to rank higher on Pinterest search, the problems that you might encounter and their solution.
And the first one on the list is
Ideal Pin Size
When you search for a keyword on Pinterest, the first thing that you will notice is that the pins that rank for highly competitive terms are mostly vertical.
And the recommended aspect ratio is 2:3.
This means the ideal image dimensions for a pin that performs well on Pinterest is 1000 x 1500 px
or 2000 x 3000 px
.
When you create a blog post, images of different dimensions are included and that means there are chances that visitors might share an image (in most cases the featured image) that will not generate any traffic.
Solution
To solve this problem, you need to first include some pins in your blog and secondly, disable pinning for non-optimized images, a feature about which we are going to discuss a bit later in this Tasty Pins review.
Create multiple pins
Pinterest is a platform that will reward you just like search engines if you keep adding fresh content, in other words images.
This means you will have to create more pins for your pages than the usual number because creating one or may be two pins wouldn’t help much.
Now, if you start adding these pins to your articles then it will take up a lot of space as the pins are vertical and as a result the page might look spammy.
Solution
To help you with this you need a tools that lets you hide pins in blog posts, again a feature that Tasty Pins is known for.
Custom pin descriptions
A description is an element that summarizes the contents of the page to the visitors and it plays an important role in both Pinterest and SEO.
If you have been using WordPress then I’m sure you are already aware of the fact that WordPress doesn’t allow you to add description for Pinterest on images.
Solution
Again you need a tool to help you with adding descriptions to all the images on your site and let me tell you, this can be done with Tasty Pins easily.
Tasty Pins Pros
These are some genuine problems that every blogger faces when starting out with Pinterest and WordPress.
Now, if you are looking for solutions and have no technical background then these may look like issues that are impossible to solve .
However, in reality all you need is one plugin and that is Tasty Pins.
In case you are wondering how does Tasty pins help solve these problems then let me tell you in this section we are going to discuss just that and more.
Having said that,
Let just start with some Pros of using Tasty Pins
Pinterest Save Button
As you know images are the most commonly shared type of content on Pinterest and one of the ways to encourage visitors to share images from your blog posts to Pinterest is by adding a save button on them.
Adding Pinterest button on images may seem like a complicated process. However, when you install Tasty Pins, it automatically adds the save button to images.
This means you don’t have to worry about adding code for this functionality.
Customize Pinterest Save button
In case you are wondering if you can customize the Pinterest save button or change its position on the image then let me tell you, this can be easily done by visiting Settings in Tasty pins.
Once you are in the Settings, the first thing you have to do is change the Tasty Pins hover button from Default to Custom.
And for that you can click the drop down and it will show you the other option.
When you change it, you will notice the default Pinterest save button with the logo will become round.
And the best part is you can see all the changes without having to visit any of your posts as there is a preview image right next to the Settings.
Having said that,
The next setting that you will see is the Hover button position and using this you can change the position of the Pinterest save button on images.
This setting gives you 5 options to choose from and these are
- Top Left (Default)
- Top Right
- Center
- Bottom Left
- Bottom Right
You can select one by clicking the drop down.
After you are done changing the position, the next setting lets you change the shape of the hover button.
And you get 3 options to choose from
- Round (Default)
- Square
- Rounded Rectangle
You can pick one by clicking the drop down and the changes could be seen in the preview image.
In case you want to change the text on the button and the overlay shadow on the image then the next 2 settings are for you.
If you want to enable image overlay shadow then select yes as shown in the screenshot above.
And as far as the custom button label text is concerned, the first thing you have to do is enable this setting by selecting Yes and then add the custom text in the box.
You can see all the changes in the Preview image which is right next to the setting.
As you can see Tasty Pins, lets you customize every aspect of the Pinterest save button with ease and this is feature that is missing in a lot of plugins that I have used before.
Disable Pinterest save button
As discussed before, the image size that performs well on Pinterest is of the aspect ratio 2:3 and when you install Tasty Pins, it automatically adds Pinterest hover button on all images.
This means there are chances that visitors might pin the images of wrong sizes and in turn your site won’t get much clicks from the platform.
To solve this problem, Tasty Pins has a setting that lets you specify the minimum height and width of the images on which you don’t want to display the hover button.
For this all you have to do is visit Tasty Pins settings and you will find these options in the bottom.
Once you find it, you need to specify values for both the width and height in the respective boxes and then click Save changes.
After this you need to clear your site’s cache and visit any page and see if it is working as expected.
Having said that,
Configuring this setting is very vital as it will ensure that the images below the specified dimensions will not have a save button on them and hence chances are less that these images won’t be pinned.
Now, it is important to keep in mind, this setting is very different from Disable Pinning as using this setting will only remove the hovering save button.
This means if the images meet the minimum size requirements of Pinterest then they can still be pinned and only the hovering button will be disable.
Keeping this is mind, lets discuss another benefit of using Tasty Pins which is
Disable pinning of specific images
By now you know the importance of image sizes in Pinterest algorithm and now just to make sure that non-optimized images aren’t pinned, Tasty Pins gives you access to another setting which is Disable Pinning.
As the name suggests, using this setting you can disable pinning of specific images on Pinterest with just one click.
Before we move forward, it is important to know that Pinterest has its own set of attributes using which the platform fetches or ignores data.
When you enable this feature on any image, it automatically adds data-pin-nopin
attribute and assigns it a value because of which it can’t be pinned.
Now, when it comes to enabling disable pinning feature, all you have to do is create or edit any post and then select the image that you don’t want to be pinned.
Once the image block is selected, you need to go to the sidebar in the Gutenberg editor and locate the disable pinning option which you will find under Tasty Pins and select it.
The last step is to update the post and visit it to see if it is working as expected. And that’s it you have successfully disabled pinning of unoptimized images and now, the visitors will only get to pin the optimized ones.
Custom pin description
Just like image sizes, pin descriptions play an important role in ranking your images on Pinterest.
As mentioned before, WordPress does not come with the functionality that allows you to add Pinterest specific description to your images and that is a big problem.
Also, Pinterest uses a special attribute to fetch descriptions for your pins and that is known as data-pin-description
.
You can add this attribute to each image manually, if you are familiar with coding. But adding to multiple images on different blog posts is a long and painful process.
In case you are non-technical then implementing any type of code is not recommended as it can break that element.
Keeping this in mind, Tasty Pins comes with a feature that allows you to add custom pin description to every image on your blog or website making it Pinterest optimized.
To add custom pin descriptions to images you need to edit an existing post or page and then select the image.
Once selected, you need to locate Tasty Pins in the WordPress editor’s sidebar and add the description in the box named Pinterest text.
It is important to know, there is another way of including Pinterest descriptions to images when using Tasty Pins.
And that is by adding it while uploading the image or through the Media Library in your WordPress dashboard.
Having said that,
As you can see Tasty Pins makes your life super easy when optimizing for Pinterest as it takes away all the hard work and confusion because NO editing or adding of CODE is required when you are using this plugin.
Hide multiple pins
As discussed before, some of the Pinterest ranking factors are very similar to search engines and one of them is consistency and new content.
If you have been using Pinterest for a while then you might have often come across the advice that you need to pin new pins regularly.
And let me tell you that it is very true and I have seen bloggers getting decent traffic from Pinterest when sharing new content.
Now, it is important to know the type of content that is most popular on Pinterest is images and this means you will have to create multiple pins for a single post or a page.
If you include multiple vertical images on a page then it could end up looking spammy. And that is why you need Tasty Pins as it comes with a feature that lets you hide multiple pins in blog posts.
To hide pins in a blog post, you can edit an existing page and scroll down to the bottom where you will find this option.
Once there all you have to do is select the pins from your Media library and click Update to save the changes you have made.
Having said that,
When hiding images you will come across another setting that lets you select if you want the force pinning of hidden images.
When you enable this setting, it will show the hidden pins first to the users when pinning on Pinterest increasing the chances of hidden pins being shared more.
Default Pinterest title and text
If you have been running your site for a while and have just thought of focusing on Pinterest then there are chances that you will have quite a lot of images on your site missing Pinterest title, custom pin description or both.
In this scenario, it is very tough to go back to each and every image on your site and add these elements.
With Tasty Pins, you get access to Default Pinterest title and Default Pinterest description option that lets you add a title and custom description to images on a page that do not have them set.
This means if you have included a default Pinterest title and description in a blog post using Tasty Pins then it will be applied to all the images that do not have it specified making the task of optimizing images much more easier if you are starting on the platform now.
To add the default Pinterest title and description, you need to edit an existing article and scroll down to the bottom where you will see Tasty Pins settings below the WordPress editor.
And just below the Pinterest hidden images you will see these options.
Before we move forward, it is important to know if an image or a pin already has a Pinterest title and description set then these options will not override it.
This means these will only be applied to images that do not have any or either set.
Boost your reach with Repins
If you have been using Pinterest then you would have definitely heard about Repin.
Repin is a term that combines 2 words Re and Pin meaning an image that is already on Pinterest and is being shared by you or other users again on the platform.
Before we move forward, it is important to know that when an image is pinned on Pinterest, it creates a unique identification for the pin known as Repin ID.
This means if a user lands on your website and pins an image that you have pinned before then both of these pins will have a different Repin ID and the repins won’t count under one even if you have a Pinterest business account.
Due to the non-consolidation of repins, these pins might not perform well on Pinterest because pins with higher number of saves tend to be more popular and are shown more often by the platform.
And to solve this problem Tasty Pins comes with a feature known as Repin ID using which you can boost the number of Repins for an image that is already pinned on the platform.
To use this feature, the first thing you have to do is find the highest performing pin on Pinterest for a page or post.
And one of the easiest ways to do it is by using the Tailwind Pin Inspector. Using this tool you can sort the pins by the number of repins.
Once you have found the best performing pin for the page, the next step is to open the pin in Pinterest and copy the long string of numbers at the end of the URL.
After that you need to go back to the WordPress editor and select the image to which you want to add this id to.
On selecting the image, you need to head over to the sidebar in your WordPress editor and locate Tasty Pins settings under which you will find the option to add the Repin ID.
The last step is to add the Repin ID and update the page. And that’s it you have successfully added a Repin ID to an image using Tasty Pins.
Before we move forward, it is important to know if you want to check if an image is using a repin id or not then you will have to visit the page and use the Inspection tool by right clicking on the image.
Doing this will open the Dev Tools console and here in the img
tag you need to find the data-pin-id
attribute. See the below screenshot for reference.
If the image tag contains this attribute followed by the repin ID that you have entered then it will work correctly.
Also, in case you are wondering if you can add data-pin-id or Repin ID to your images manually then the answer is yes.
However, there is drawback and that is, mostly a post or a page will have multiple images and adding repin ID to each image will require you to add code fragment which will make the task time consuming.
And on top of that, if you are not familiar with coding then it can be a bit of a hassle that can lead to parts of your site not working as expected.
Having said that,
Tasty Pins is a great tool to have in your arsenal if you want to conquer Pinterest as it saves you time, is super light weight, gives you access to all the features that you need to rank higher on Pinterest and the best part is you don’t have to worry about the code one bit.
Now that you know about the pros of using Tasty Pins and its features, its time we discuss its cons as well because to make an informed decision you need to know about its drawbacks as well.

Tasty Pins Cons
As you can see that the Tasty Pins WordPress plugin has a huge list of features and benefits. However, the list of cons is non-existent.
In our experience of using the plugin, we found Tasty Pins to be an amazing tool for Pinterest optimization.
But the only thing we could find missing was its inability to disable pinning of featured images.
After doing a bit of digging on this topic, we found that the team at Tasty Pins has already addressed this on their forum.
Now, it is important to keep in mind, this is not something that should be considered as a reason for not choosing this plugin because featured images are a theme-specific development.
And it is not possible for plugin authors to create a solution for a problem on which they have no control over as it is totally dependent on the theme developer.
However, as a common solution they have provided a filter that you can add in your theme’s function.php
file.
Before I share the filter, it is recommended any such changes should be made only to child theme and not the parent theme. Also, do take a back up for safety reasons and for that you can use the UpdraftPlus plugin.
/**
* Disable pinning of all featured images.
*/
add_filter( 'post_thumbnail_html', function( $html ){
// Something already has 'data-pin-nopin', so we don't need to modify.
if ( false !== stripos( $html, 'data-pin-nopin' ) ) {
return $html;
}
// Add 'data-pin-nopin' to the <img> HTML tag.
$html = str_replace( '<img ', '<img data-pin-nopin="true" ', $html );
return $html;
});
In case this code does not work then I will suggest contacting the theme author.
Having said that,
This shows the company behind Tasty Pins is concerned about its users and is willing to solve the problems in the best possible way they can.
And this in my books is a sign of a good company wherein after you get the product you will be satisfied with the after sales service and more.

Yes, absolutely Tasty Pins is an amazing plugin.
I never heard of Tasty Pins before. Is this only for food bloggers or is for everyone?
It is a Pinterest optimization plugin for anyone who is using the platform.
I just bought it and already have the following issues:
– Unlike Weblizar, I cannot disable the Save button from appearing on pages, and have it only appear on blog posts. It has to appear on every single page and post on my whole site. I know I can disable individual images from showing up one-by-one but that’s a lot of work, I’d rather exclude entire pages. Also, I have a Post Grid Carousel on my homepage with thumbnails to all my posts, I don’t want the hover button on there. There is no way to disable, because it’s not an image block. I guess I could go find those featured images in my media library to disable them across the board, but I don’t want them disabled across the board. I’m fine with them being pinnable on some pages where I also have duplicates of those images. I only want them disabled on the Post Grid Carousel, it looks messy. Or I would just disable the whole homepage if it would let me.
– If I use the regular basic image gallery block, I could disable the Save button from appearing. But I have a paid theme, so I like to use the advanced image gallery block. I can’t disable the button on there.
Or am I just not looking at the settings correctly? I paid for it so I’d really like to NOT deactivate it and go back to Weblizar, if possible.
Hi Claire, Thank you for reaching out regarding your queries.
There is a simple solution to this problem and that is by defining the Minimum Image width and height in settings (Try setting minimum image width as 600px and see if this helps). Doing this will disable the pin button on images in bulk.
As far as the featured images in concerned, that cant be disabled using this plugin as it is something theme specific.
I hope this helps. In case you have any queries feel free to reply or reach out via contact form. I will be happy to help
Thank You
Jasmeet
