How to Activate Grid Container Widget in Elementor

Before we dive into this step by step process, here is a brief background on the Elementor Grid Container widget.

If you have been following the development of Elementor then you must be familiar with the fact that Flexbox Container was released in Elementor version 3.6.

And it gave users a better way of creating layouts / designs using the page builder plugin.

In Elementor 3.13, this feature again received an improvement in which Grid feature was introduced as an experiment.

And on enabling it, a Container type dropdown was added that allowed users to choose between Flexbox and Grid based on their requirements.

Continuing on this trend, in Elementor 3.16, a new Grid Container was introduced to improve the workflow and user experience.

It is important to know that as of now, Grid Container feature comes disabled by default.

And in this tutorial we are going to discuss how can you activate Grid Container feature in Elementor.

As the status of the Grid Container feature is BETA, we suggest that you take a complete backup of your site before you enable it.

Also, if possible first use it on a test / local environment and then push changes to LIVE if everything works as expected.

Keeping this in mind, below are all the steps to enable Grid Container widget in Elementor.

Login to WordPress

To activate Grid Container widget in Elementor, the first step is to login to your WordPress dashbboard.

For this you need to visit https://your-domain.com/wp-admin and it will take you to the WordPress login page.

Please Note- Here you need to replace your-domain.com with your website’s domain name.

Once you are on the WordPress login page, you need to enter your credentials and click Log In.

Head over to Features

After you have successfully logged in, the next step is to head over to the Elementor Features tab.

For this you need to click Settings under Elementor in your WordPress admin.

And it will show you all the settings along with the Features tab on top.

You need to click the Features tab and it will show you all the Ongoing Experiments followed by Stable Features.

Enable Flexbox Container

Now that you are in the Features tab, the next step is to activate Elementor Flexbox Container feature.

For this you need to scroll down to Stable features under which you will find Flexbox Container.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the mark in front of Flexbox Container feature is Gray.

This shows it is inactive.

To enable Flexbox Container, you need to select Active in the dropdown and Save changes.

It is important to know that after enabling Flexbox Container, you will no longer find the Inner Section widget in Elementor editor.

And it will be replaced by the Container widget.

If you have been building layout using the inner section widget then you will still be able to edit them.

However, you won’t be able to create anything new using it.

Activate Grid Container Feature

Once you are done till here, the next step is to activate Grid Container widget in Elementor.

For this you need to scroll up to Ongoing Experiments in the Features tab where you will find the Grid Container feature.

Here you will have to select Active in the dropdown and Save changes.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the mark in front of Grid Container is green and it shows the Feature is active.

In other words, it fixes the problem of missing Grid Container widget in Elementor.

To check if the Grid Container widget in active, you need to create or edit a post with Elementor.

Doing this will take you to the Elementor editor.

Here you will find the Grid Container widget under Layout in the Elementor Editor side panel.

It is important to know that when you will add the Flexbox or Grid Container widget in Elementor, it will show you a Container type dropdown.
