How to FIX Missing Grid Container Widget in Elementor

If yes then in this tutorial we have shared the step by step process using which you can do this easily.

Before we learn more about this, here is a brief background on the Elementor Grid Container.

In Elementor 3.6 update, one of the most awaited features known as Flexbox Container was introduced as an experiment.

And it gave users a new and better way of building layouts.

This feature again received a major improvement in Elementor 3.13 where the new Grid feature was introduced as an experiment.

And on activating it, a new dropdown to select Grid Layout was added to the Container widget.

Following this, in Elementor 3.16, a separate Grid Container widget was introduced to better the user experience and workflow.

Now, it is important to know that as of now Grid feature comes disabled by default as its status is BETA.

And this could be one of the reasons, why you are not seeing Grid Widget in Elementor widget.

Another thing that you need to know here is that Grid feature requires you to have the Flexbox Container enabled.

If you have the Inner Section widget active or in other words you have the Flexbox Container turned off then this could be another reason for not seeing Grid Container widget in Elementor.

A simple fix to this problem is- Enabling both Flexbox and Grid Container feature in Elementor.

And this is what we are going to discuss in this tutorial.

Please Note- Before you start making any changes, we recommend that you take a complete backup of your WordPress site and if possible first make changes on a test or a local environment and if everything goes as per plan push it to live.

Login to WordPress Dashboard

To fix missing Grid Container widget in Elementor, the first step is to login to WordPress.

For this you need to visit- https://your-domain.com/wp-admin

Please note- Here you have to replace your-domain.com with your site’s domain name.

This will take you to the WordPress login page where you need to enter your credentials and click Log In.

Navigate to Features

In the next step you need to head over to Features.

And for this you will have to click Settings under Elementor in your WordPress admin sidebar.

Doing this will show you all the settings along with the Features tab.

Here you need to click the Features tab and it will show you all the Ongoing Experiments followed by Stable features.

Enable Flexbox Container

Once you are in the Features tab, the next step is to located and activate Flexbox Container in Elementor.

For this you need to scroll down to Stable features under which you will find Flexbox Container.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the mark in front of Flexbox Container is Gray.

And it shows that the feature is inactive.

In this case you will have to enable it by selecting Active in the dropdown and then Save changes.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the mark in front of Flexbox Container is now Green which shows it is active.

Keep in mind, doing this will disable Inner Section widget in Elementor.

Or in other words, you will not find inner section widget in Elementor editor.

It is important to know that if you have built designs using inner section then you will still be able to edit them.

However, you won’t be able to create anything new using it.

Activate Grid Container

After you are done enabling Flexbox, the next step is to activate Grid Container feature in Elementor.

For this you need to scroll up to Ongoing Experiments and locate the Grid Container feature.

Once found you need to select Active in the dropdown and Save changes.

This will fix the missing Grid Container widget in Elementor.

Check if Missing Grid Container Issue is Fixed

To check if the missing Grid Container widget issue is fixed, you need to edit a post with Elementor.

And it will take you to the Elementor editor.

Here you will find the Grid Container widget under Layout in the Elementor editor side panel.

Another thing that you need to know here is that, you will find the Container type dropdown in both Flexbox and Grid Container widgets.

And you will notice that the default values selected will be Flexbox and Grid respectively. See the below screenshots for reference.

Using this dropdown you can select if you want to create a Grid or Flexbox layout.

Moral of the story is these widgets can be used interchangeably.
