- Hello Theme
- UpdraftPlus (For Backup)
Before we dive into this process, here is a little background on why you are not seeing the inner section widget in Elementor editor.
Elementor 3.6 was released on March 22nd 2022 and marked the introduction of Flexbox Container as an experiment.
This is one of the most awaited features and on activating Flexbox Container in Elementor, it replaces the Inner Section widget with the new Container widget. See the below screenshot for reference.
- Before activating Flexbox Container experiment
- After activating Flexbox Container experiment
Keeping this in mind, while browsing Reddit recently, I came across a post recently where a user has asked about this.
Although the query was answered, I still decided to write a tutorial on this.
This brings us to the solution of the missing inner section widget in Elementor and that is-
If you have the Flexbox Container feature active then you will have to disable it.
And it will fix the missing inner section issue or in other words will activate Inner Section widget in Elementor.
Please Note- After Elementor 3.16, status of Flexbox Container was upgraded to Stable and it will come enabled by default in new installations.
Now, before you dive into the process
Things to know before you fix Inner Section not Showing in Elementor
First things first, Inner Section and Flexbox Container are 2 different ways of building layouts using Elementor.
With Flexbox Container you get access to revamped widgets and other new features. However, some of these are missing in Inner Section.
Just to name a few, new Tabs widget was released in Elementor 3.10, Mega Menu (new Menu widget) was introduced in Elementor Pro 3.12 and both these features and more is missing in inner section.
Or in other words, if you have inner section widget active then you will miss out on a lot.
It is important to know here that you cannot use Inner Section and Container widget together or inter-changeably because these are 2 different paths of building layouts as mentioned above.
Keep in mind, Elementor does allow you to edit existing layouts / designs built using Inner Section even if you have Container widget enabled.
However, vice-versa is not the case.
This brings us to the most important point and that is- If you have built any design / layout using Container widget then on deactivating you will lose everything.
In worst case scenarios, content might be lost as well.
Solution– If you want to fix no inner section widget issue in Elementor and it requires you to deactivate / disable Flexbox Container, then we will recommend doing this first on a staging site.
And if everything goes as per plan and you are satisfied with the outcome then take a complete backup first and push the changes to the live website.
All in all we do not want you to lose any progress you have made.
Keeping this in mind, in this tutorial we have shared the step by step process on how can you do this easily.
Login to WordPress dashboard
To fix missing inner section widget issue in Elementor, the first step is to login to your WordPress dashboard.
For this you need to visit https://your-site.com/wp-admin and it will take you to the login page.
Here you will have to enter valid credentials and click Login.
Navigate to Features
Once you have successfully logged in, the next step is to Navigate to Elementor Features.
For this you need to first visit Settings under Elementor in the WordPress admin side panel.
And it will show you 4 tabs.
Here you will have to click the Features tab and it will show you all the Ongoing Experiments followed by Stable Features.
Disable Flexbox Container Feature in Elementor
Once you are done till here, the next step is to locate the Flexbox Container dropdown.
And for this you will have to scroll down to Stable Features and under it you will find Flexbox Container.
As discussed before, if the inner section widget is missing in Elementor and Container widget is available then surely the Flexbox Container feature is active.
And you can see in the screenshot above, a Green dot before the label and the dropdown set to Active shows it is enabled.
Before we move forward, it is important to know that in Elementor 3.5, Experiments interface received a major change where these were divided into 2 categories.
- Ongoing
- Stable
If an Experiment is under ongoing then it is recommended that you do not use it on a LIVE site or production environment.
In case you are looking to give a feature under ongoing experiments a try then I will recommend doing it on a local site.
Keeping this in mind, to disable Flexbox Container feature you need to select Inactive in the dropdown.
Remember as of now, Flexbox container comes active by default in new installations of Elementor and disabled on sites using the plugin before this update.
Hence selecting any of the value Inactive in the dropdown will disable this feature.
Once you have selected Inactive, a prompt will appear letting you know that you will not get access to features dependent on Flexbox Container and all the content created using it will be deleted as well.
Before you click that Deactivate button make sure you have taken backup of your site. If you have done it then click and it will deactivate Flexbox Container feature.
As you can see in the screenshot above, Flexbox Container label has a gray mark in front of the label and Inactive is selected in the dropdown.
This shows the feature is disabled and it fixes missing Elementor Inner Section widget issue.
Please note- Now you will notice that the Flexbox Container widget is missing in Elementor
