What’s New in Elementor 3.16 Update

The latest version of the Elementor page builder plugin is out now.

And in this article we have discussed what’s new in Elementor 3.16.

Elementor 3.16 update is for the free version of the website builder plugin and it comes with quite a few improvements.

In this update, a new widget for creating Grid layout has been introduced and Flexbox Container feature comes active by default in new installation.

In other words, if you are installing Elementor on a new site then you will not have to activate Flexbox Container.

Other than this an option to add Notes has been added to Editor Top Bar.

Please Note- Notes is a feature that is available only in premium version of the plugin.

Elementor 3.16 Update

Before we move forward, it is important to know that, this update was released on 12th September 2023.

And below are all the topics covered.

Grid Container

Grid Container is a feature that was introduced in Elementor 3.13.

And as the name suggests using it you can create Grid Layout in Elementor.

This feature has received a few improvements in Elementor 3.16.

And the first one is, its status has been updated to BETA.

The next change that you will come across in Elementor 3.16 update is the introduction of new Grid widget.

To see this change the first step is to activate Flexbox Container in Elementor.

For this you need to head over to Features tab in Elementor Settings in your WordPress dashboard.

Here you will have to scroll down to Stable features under which you will find Flexbox Container.

To enable, you need to select Active in the dropdown and Save changes.

Please note- Activating Flexbox Container will disable Inner Section widget.

In other words, Elementor Inner Section widget will be missing.

It is important to know that you will still be able to edit / make changes to the existing designs and layouts created using Inner Section.

However, you won’t be able to create anything new.

Keeping this in mind, the next step is to activate Grid Container feature in Elementor.

For this you need to scroll up to Ongoing experiments where you will find Grid Container feature.

To enable Grid, all you have to do is select Active in the dropdown and Save changes.

Once you are done till here, the next step is to edit / create a new post with Elementor.

And add Container widget on the Elementor canvas.

You can do this by either dragging and dropping the widget on canvas or by simply clicking it.

Please note- Adding widgets by clicking is a feature that was introduced in Elementor 3.14.

Now, if you have been using Grid feature then you must be familiar with the fact that to create Grid Layout in Elementor, the only available way was to select Grid in Container type dropdown in Container widget before Elementor 3.16.

This has changed in Elementor 3.16 and a new way of creating Grid layout has been introduced which is the new Grid widget.

You will find the new Grid widget under layout in Elementor side panel.

It is important to know that both the Container and Grid widget still come with the option to select Container type.

In Container widget, Flexbox is the default selection and in the new Grid widget it is Grid.

This means you can select these values as per your needs.

Flexbox Container

Moving on from the Grid Container, the next change that you will come across in Elementor 3.16 has been introduced for the Flexbox Container.

And in this its status has been promoted to Stable.

Along with this, from now onwards, it will come enabled by default on new installations.

This means new users will have to disable Flexbox Container feature to activate Inner Section widget in Elementor.

Please note- We do not suggest using Inner Section as it is the legacy way of building layouts using Elementor.

On top of this, you will not get access to quite a few revamped widgets and new features.

Notes in Editor Top Bar

After Flexbox Container, the next improvement that has been introduced in Elementor 3.16 is the addition of Notes in Editor Top Bar.

To see this change, the first step is to activate Editor Top Bar feature in Elementor.

For this you need to navigate to Features tab in Elementor Settings.

And under Ongoing Experiments you will find Editor Top Bar dropdown.

Here you need to select Active and Save changes to enable it.

In the next step you need to edit a page or a post with Elementor.

And on the Top Bar in Elementor editor, you will come across new Notes feature.

You can click the Notes icon and it allow you to perform actions such as add, edit and delete.

In case the Notes feature is missing in Elementor then most likely chances are you are using the free version of the plugin.

And to access this feature you need to get Elementor Pro license key.
